LOR - Image May 2022
As one gazes at our moon, that simple act creates an instant solace for the soul, a stillness, a serenity, and that is the musical atmosphere I wanted to accompany the scene for the following excerpt.
So while I was composing music for this 7th movement, I would stare at that Earthrise image, thinking about its impact on the world and was determined to transfer its powerful message into music.
And while determination helped me overcome what felt like a daunting task, I was also transfixed by the serenity of that image.
Seeing Earth suspended, in the blackness of apace, thinking about that mission and the astronaut's unexpected encounter of Earth rising, returning and sharing that scene, so we could all benefit from its powerful message.
And this ties in nicely with a comment that Jim Lovell made (who was one of 3 astronauts of the Apollo 8) where he talks about that mission and image and comments about the impact it made and, in his words, describes the situation most poetically by saying,
“𝑰𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑬𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒆 𝒑𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒖𝒕
